It Figures March 8
Work gets a little nutso, and I end up neglecting this site for a week or so, and I get blogrolled by a bunch of people. Welcome, new readers, if you’re still around ^_^
Well, despite the amount of snow still on the ground around here, this weekend is the start of Daylight Saving Time, and even though it’s three weeks earlier this year, it really is the start of spring for me. So, naturally, I’m itching to do at least the following:
- Light the firepit
- Cook on the grill
- Go camping
- Buy seeds for the veggie garden
- Get on my bike and ride
Numbers 1 & 2 are going to have to wait until the 18″ of snow accumulation in my backyard has melted away. Number 3 is currently being planned (I’m hoping for at least 2 car camping trips, and 2 backpack camping trips this summer). Number 4 scares me (many, many gardening mistakes were made last year, so I need to do a fair bit of planning this year to ensure they are not repeated). That leaves Number 5, which is also going to need to wait for the temperatures to rise at least a good 20 degrees or so, but may just be getting a head start from a grand opening sale at The Hub. I’ve only been to the West Bank location of the Hub before, so I don’t know how big a change the move to the new location will be, but hey…if they’ve got stuff on sale it might just be worth checking out. If I was riding the MS 150 again this year, I’d be shopping for a new (LIGHTER!) bike, but since I won’t be, I’ll probably just be checking out what they’ve got for cold weather gear (so I don’t have to wait quite so long before getting started again).
And if I’m doing something fitness related this weekend (even if it’s only shopping), I think I’m also allowed to do something purely gluttony based: The Taste of Chocolate is this Sunday in Bloomington. Unlike the Twin Cities Chocolate Extravaganza (which failed to impress), the TOC is an actual dessert competition (which includes a People’s Choice Award). The last time I went (which, admittedly was a few years ago) I ended up so stuffed of really, really, good chocolate that I couldn’t eat a chocolate bar for a couple months. I had to force myself to taste the last couple of entries (because it wouldn’t be fair to vote if I hadn’t tasted them all) — and if you know me and chocolate at all, you know how odd that is. There’s also a silent auction (which had some pretty impressive entries before), and all the proceeds go to benefit the Bloomington Fine Arts Council. It’s a little pricey ($25 at the door), but I’ll gladly pay it. If you’re in the Cities and interested in checking it out, shoot me a line.
