and they have good cookies too. November 2
So, I took my own advice last week and purchased $20 tickets to see The Home Place for Amber and I.
It’s funny how as I get older, my appreciation for theatre that doesn’t involve the genius (ahem) of Sir Andrew Lloyd Weber keeps growing. For example, I can tell you that most of the acting last night was quite good (with the exception of certain saucy chambermaids with a flavor for scenery flavoured gum). The plot, basically a landlord’s quietly dysfunctional life is turned upside-down by the visit of his cousin, was interesting enough to get me back after intermission (I have a sweater to knit, dammit!) which was a good sign. The actual dialogue, however, felt like the playwright had a minimum number of words to submit and had to give people more and more to say (familiar?).
Overall, I had a fun time and was glad I saw it. The next scheduled play on our subscription is Peer Gynt. I’m pretty sure I read that in high school, so it will be interesting to see if it brings back any good (or painful and awkward) memories.

That chambermaid! Ugh! I don’t know if it was just that I find the authentic old Irish lower class accent grating or if the actress was genuinely annoying.
